Mawlid Celebrations in Nairobi Promote Unity, Humanity and Peace
NAIROBI, KENYA – Muslims in Nairobi have joined millions of faithful around the world in commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad during annual Mawlid celebrations, also known as Zefe.
The celebrations, organized by the Nairobi Muslim Badalla Jamat, brought together Muslim scholars, community leaders and faithful to reflect on the life, teachings and legacy of Prophet Muhammad.
The gathering emphasized the importance of peace, compassion, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among people of different religious and ethnic backgrounds.
Speaking during the celebrations, Chairman of the Nairobi Muslim Badalla Jamat, Arif Juneja, said the community is committed to strengthening Islamic education and promoting values that contribute to a peaceful and united society.
Juneja said one of the community's key priorities is to establish and support more madrassas, where young people can be taught not only religious values but also the importance of humanity, tolerance and coexistence regardless of religion or race.
“Our focus is to build more madrassas that will teach the importance of humanity, tolerance and coexistence regardless of religion and race,” Juneja said.
Other leaders attending the event called on Kenyans to safeguard peace, unity and mutual respect as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.
They urged communities to reject division and embrace dialogue, tolerance and peaceful engagement, emphasizing that national unity remains essential for Kenya's development and stability.
Mawlid is observed annually by Muslims in many parts of the world as an occasion to honor the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad. The commemoration provides an opportunity for the faithful to reflect on values including compassion, peace, generosity, justice and respect for humanity.
The Nairobi celebrations concluded with renewed calls for religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence and stronger community efforts to promote unity across Kenya.
