Lakehub Foundation Named Accelerator of the Year at Inaugural SPICY Awards 2026

Lakehub Foundation was named Accelerator of the Year at the inaugural SPICY Awards 2026 in Nairobi, in recognition of its contribution to entrepreneurship, innovation and the growth of grassroots enterprises in Kenya.

The Kisumu based organisation emerged under the Entrepreneurs category, which recognises purpose driven enterprises creating meaningful value and advancing sustainable development.

The citation commended Lakehub Foundation for turning purpose, vision and opportunity into ventures capable of generating lasting impact, while creating pathways for grassroots and purpose driven entrepreneurs to access support, networks and opportunities.
Lakehub Foundation received Winner Certificate No. SA26W ENT 00105 during the ceremony held on September 12, 2026.
The recognition was conferred by the SPICY Awards 2026 Awarding Board, with the certificate signed by Daniel Juma Omondi, Chair of the Awarding Board, and Erick Inghatt Matsanza, Project Executive of SPICY Awards 2026 and Founder of Spice Without Borders.

Based in Kisumu, Lakehub Foundation has established itself as an important platform for entrepreneurs, innovators and community based enterprises in Western Kenya. Its programmes focus on incubation, acceleration, digital skills development, networking and access to opportunities for emerging businesses.

The organisation has particularly worked with women led startups, youth ventures and grassroots entrepreneurs seeking to transform innovative ideas into viable and sustainable enterprises.

Speaking after the recognition, Caleb Nyoiro of Lakehub Foundation said the honour belonged to the entrepreneurs and communities the organisation has supported across the Lake Victoria region and beyond.

“We are deeply honoured to be named Accelerator of the Year at the inaugural SPICY Awards. This recognition belongs to every grassroots entrepreneur we have walked with in Lake Victoria region and beyond,” Caleb said.

Caleb said Lakehub Foundation remained committed to demonstrating how locally developed ideas can generate wider economic and social impact.

The inaugural SPICY Awards, organised by Spice Without Borders, brought together changemakers from different sectors under a programme designed to recognise Activists, Creatives, Entrepreneurs, Thinkers and Innovators.

The initiative seeks to highlight individuals and organisations whose work contributes to social transformation, innovation, enterprise development and community empowerment.
For Lakehub Foundation, the recognition marks a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen Kenya’s grassroots entrepreneurship ecosystem and expand opportunities for innovators outside the country’s traditional economic centres.

It also draws attention to the growing role of innovation hubs in helping entrepreneurs acquire the skills, networks and resources needed to move from ideas to sustainable businesses.

Through its programmes and partnerships, Lakehub Foundation continues to position entrepreneurship as a pathway for job creation, stronger local economies and community driven solutions.

The latest honour therefore underscores the organisation’s growing contribution to Kenya’s innovation ecosystem and its efforts to ensure that promising entrepreneurs have the support needed to turn local ideas into lasting impact.
