Women in STEM Forum Held at the University of Nairobi with Paul Kuria, Director, National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), and Africa ForwardNAIROBI, KENYA – The University of Nairobi, in partnership with Africa Forward,

The University of Nairobi, in partnership with Africa Forward, successfully hosted a high-impact Women in STEM Forum, bringing together students, academics, industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners to advance gender equality in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) across Africa.
The forum served as a platform to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and practical strategies for increasing the participation, retention, and leadership of women and girls in STEM disciplines. Through engaging discussions and networking sessions, participants explored innovative approaches to building a more inclusive STEM ecosystem.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Paul Kuria, Director at the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), underscored the importance of policy, mentorship, and institutional support in closing the gender gap within STEM fields.
"When we invest in women in STEM, we invest in Africa's future. At NGEC, we are committed to ensuring equal opportunities, mentorship, and safe spaces for girls and women to thrive in science and technology," said Paul Kuria.
Representatives from Africa Forward emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between universities, government institutions, development organizations, and the private sector to expand access to scholarships, internships, research opportunities, and innovation hubs for young women pursuing STEM careers.
