Somalia's 66th Independence Anniversary Celebrated in Grand Style at KICC, Nairobi.

Nairobi, Kenya – July 1, 2026 – The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Kenya successfully hosted a grand celebration marking the 66th Anniversary of Somalia's Independence and National Unity at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
The event commemorated the independence of Southern Somalia from Italian colonial rule and the historic union of Northern and Southern Somalia on July 1, 1960, which gave birth to the Somali Republic.
The celebration attracted more than 50,000 members of the Somali community living in Kenya, alongside distinguished guests including diplomats led by Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Kenya, the Director General of the Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, senior government officials from Somalia and Kenya, representatives of international and local institutions, academics, business leaders, youth representatives, and members of the Somali diaspora.
The ceremony was marked by a vibrant display of patriotism as attendees commemorated Somalia's independence,The audience was treated to captivating performances by renowned Somali musicians, poets, and cultural groups, who showcased patriotic songs, poetry, and traditional performances celebrating Somalia's rich history, culture, and resilience.
The Embassy was widely commended for the successful organization of the week-long Independence Week celebrations held at the KICC. Throughout the week, Somali entrepreneurs exhibited their products and services, while artists, innovators, and cultural performers highlighted the richness of Somalia's heritage and the dynamism of its people.
Participants praised the Embassy for its continued efforts to strengthen unity among the Somali diaspora, preserve Somali culture and traditions, and inspire patriotism among younger generations.
Speaking during the celebrations, Ambassador Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle applauded Somalis across the world for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country's sovereignty, unity, and national identity.
"July 1 represents the courage, sacrifice, and determination of the Somali people in their struggle for freedom. It remains a powerful symbol of our unity, resilience, and collective responsibility to preserve our nationhood for future generations," Ambassador Abdulle said.
The Ambassador also expressed his sincere appreciation to the organizing committees, artists, business community, women, youth, volunteers, and all stakeholders whose dedication ensured the success of the celebration.
He reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to organizing initiatives that strengthen ties within the Somali community, promote Somali culture, support trade and investment, and foster greater social cohesion among Somalis living in Kenya and beyond.
